Chester County Day Homes

2022 Northwest Quadrant

The 2022 tour will feature Chester County’s most beautiful homes and exquisite gardens in the northwest quadrant, and a walking tour in West Chester Borough. The tour route this year covers 4 different areas to enjoy. We suggest that you choose what area interests you most and use our map to plan your day.

In West Chester Borough, we invite you to visit 4 charming homes in the north area of the town.  Stop at Hoopes Park to enjoy a picnic lunch. Boxed lunches are available for purchase and pick up here from Arianna’s Gourmet Café or you can bring your own. The park is located on 16.2 acres and was named after Josiah Hoopes, one of the 3 original park supervisors.  The park opened in the summer of 1957, so the children of the community could have a place to gather.

The tour continues into the Downingtown area of the county to visit 6 historic and unique properties.

Just off Boot Road, you will discover four distinctive “Summer Cottages” on several acres with spectacular views. These three-story homes were built in the 1880s for Philadelphians looking to escape the city heat. A few miles away we have two farmhouses and a barn built in the 1700s. Our homeowners have retained the history while adding their own special features.

While in this area stop to enjoy your picnic lunch at the unique Bondsville Mill Park in East Brandywine Township. At its core is an historic textile mill surrounded by a 47-acre natural area that straddles Beaver Creek, the stream that powered the mill. Picnic tables and rest facilities are available along the picturesque creek.

The Coatesville area of our tour will highlight 2 historic communities, the Hatfield/Hibernia Historic District, featuring a group of unique homes surrounding Hibernia County Park.

The three homes in this area all date back to the 1790’s. One beautifully restored home located on 8 acres was once a parsonage. The other two charming houses were laborer’s cottages that overlook Brandywine Creek.

The National Iron and Steel Museum in the Lukens Historic District will be on our tour with a history dating back over 200 years to the Brandywine Iron and Nail Co. started by Isaac Pennock in 1794.

Tour the museum and visit two Ironmaster’s houses, Terracina and Graystone Mansion on the grounds. The museum has picnic tables on the lawn to enjoy lunch.

Continue along the scenic roads of the pastoral Northern section into Ironmaster’s Country and visit a sprawling estate that was once the site of a former iron furnace and visit a beautifully restored 1850 farmhouse and bank barn on 20 acres. Enjoy a walking tour of the quaint village of Coventryville.
